Summer time

Hard to believe August will be here tomorrow. We've been enjoying summer a great deal, logging much beach and boat time.

Schuyler gets buried.
When did she get so tall?! Digging for treasure.
In another hole.
Goggles!
Sailing with mom.

And getting her party on at the regatta (sad the movie is so dark, but you can see her getting her bounce on in any case)

Barnstable County Fair

We took Schuyler to the Barnstable County Fair on Monday night, her first trip ever. The fair is a rite of passage; I spent much time there as a girl. Entered 4-H competitions and even volunteered as a baby chick handler. Heyworth Backus (Schuyler's great-great grandfather and former Cape Cod County Commissioner - husband to Maida) was a big backer of the fair and one of the youth buildings is named in his honor.

Schuyler loved the fair. "Look at the baby pigs!" "Look at the cows!" She had lots to say and lots to see. Though I asked her today what her favorite part was and she said it was the pizza. Like mother, like daughter...

We liked the cow's pink and green halter!

Cousin Kacie

Schuyler is so excited to have cousin Kacie here this summer. They had a beach playdate on Friday and didn't hesitate to ham it up for the camera. (I was thrilled to see the little lighthouse working after many years of inactivity.) And Happy 4th birthday this week!!!

First visit to Tiki Port

We had our first dinner with Schuyler at Tiki Port, Rich's favorite place EVER. Schuyler's been singing about it forever, but this was her first time on site. She liked the plastic flower from Rich's exotic cocktail the best. The fortune cookies were also a hit, and playing peekaboo with the napkin...

The weekend

We had a full weekend. Starting with a visit from the Davis clan, vacationing on the Cape last week. Schuyler and Annabelle could be twins with their matching haircuts. (How cute is her little monogrammed dress?) Then we had our first Booze Barge outing of the summer with Michael and Tara.

Look who is driving the boat!!!

Navigation tips from Dad.Thumbs up!

Saturday was a big HYC day. First some beach time.

Then we went aboard Triumph. Schuyler insisted on no clothing...

Schuyler thrilled us with a nap in the vberth, so we got a little bit of time to relax and read with no baby interruptions.

Meeting Beylen, Dinner aboard Avanti

We got to meet Beylen Gode for the first time over the weekend; what a cutie, and such a good boy.

Abbie and Schuyler check out a sleeping Beylen. They're going to be great big sisters!
Schuyler and Rich outside the Courthouse (Schuyler has her 'pirate sword')

Later that day, the McMahons invited us aboard Avanti for a belated fireworks dinner (initial date was rained out). Despite the unexpected rainstorm, it was a lovely evening and nice to be with so much family.

Happy 4th!

Fourth of July came and went in a blur. We did our annual march in the Barnstable Village Parade ("Dogs of the Barnstables" section). Then the boat parade on Hyannis Harbor. Then dinner at Outback Steakhouse to fulfill Rich's dreams of a ribeye steak. By the end of the evening we were all EXHAUSTED. But it was a nice family 4th for certain.

How patriotic!
Drinking and waving the flag.
How did Schuyler end up in Pepper's dog carrier?!

Kickoff to Boating

The boat is in and we had a nice weekend on the water, with beautiful weather and no major issues. Schuyler was so cute; she heard Rich call for the Hyannis Yacht Club launch on the VHF radio to pick us up. Not knowing the word 'launch' - she took it for 'lunch' and promptly wanted to call for the 'HYC lunch'. Here's a little video.
