Christening Party

We attended a Christening yesterday; the party afterwards, to Schuyler's delight, was absolutely crawling with children. The party was VERY kid friendly (though it was at a country club/ more formal setting than your standard papa gino's/gymboree kid type party). The buffet featured chicken fingers and french fries. A balloon lady traveled from table to table making balloon animals. Kids took home goody bags filled with stickers and candy. And let's not forget the magic show, complete with dove and bunny. It was something! Schuyler actually was somewhat terrified of the balloon lady, hence the lack of pictures -- she started crying when the caged dove showed up...but recovered quickly with the help of a cookie (and dad). It was interesting to be at a party with so many kids, the hosts are a few years older than we are and it seems as if all their friends have a couple of kids. There were some really cute kids there, all different ages. The little boys in blue blazers just killed me; so, so cute...

Harris Family Dinner
We ventured to Cambridge last night for a Harris Family dinner (second trip to the city in two weeks!) Schuyler was thrilled to feast on some of her favorites: corn on the cob and vanilla ice cream. Following dinner, after getting her PJs on, she decided to curl up with Asta in the dog bed...

She also asked Uncle Steve for a story....

A group photo (minus Rich, who was playing photographer). Schuyler was fading fast, and ended up fast asleep for the car ride home.

Crew Captain
Samantha was recently made Captain of her crew team! Given her devotion and enthusiasm for rowing, she is VERY deserving. She's pictured here with Schuyler (who calls her 'Santa') earlier this summer.

Boating, baths, birthdays
It was a busy weeked, highlights include a lovely day on the Petrel with Michael, Tara, Chris, Rich, and Schuyler. The boys caught some bluefish and we saw the collection tower that evil Cape Wind erected where they want to put the wind farm.

With the Godfather...Then we made it over to Pop-Pop's birthday party where Schuyler, running on no nap, resorted to getting a sugar high to make it through the evening.
Next day was bathtime and then more boating, this time on the Triumph with MB&T, Bev and Joe, Rich and Schuyler.

The potty

Schuyler has recently started to show interest in her potty, which is very exciting for us; diapers are expensive!! She mostly sits on it fully clothed, or puts her doll on it, so it hasn't been put into 'real' use, but I have a feeling it won't be long now. She did sit on it last night and look at her books, just like in her potty stories, so something is starting to click in her mind. She's really growing up, it is crazy.

Schuyler in the big city

We drove from the Cape to Boston yesterday to visit Rich's new office space and did the baby handoff so I could have dinner with my bosses and a few new hires in Harvard Square. This isn't Schuyler's first trip to Boston, but it marked first time she was able to verbalize her impressions of the city. Mostly, she looked around and kept saying "walking" in response to all the pedestrians. She also got excited whenever we drove by water (going over the Sagamore Bridge, passing the Dorchester Yacht Club, etc.) and would say "hi, water" and then "bye, water"). Walking and water are big for her right now...

Sailing on the Triumph
It has been a long time since I posted anything to Schuyler's photoblog (Oct 2005!) but I'm going to give it a shot and see if I can keep it current. Schuyler has had many adventures this summer...notably, she's been sailing quite a few times on Triumph (Bristol 26) and seems to love it - we even did an overnight, albeit just on the mooring. Keeping a 20 month old amused (and out of trouble/danger) involves many diversions and perhaps one of the most effective is singing songs over and over and over again. Old MacDonald and Happy Birthday are probably the favorites. ("on that farm he had a Pepper" and "happy birthday dear Pepper" are usually what she sings...).
